Saturday, April 2nd 8:00 PM- Singer Matt Alber

Special Greetings from Matt!!!!

Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter, Matt Alber, grew up singing in choirs. Big ones. Little ones. Classical ones. Ones that traveled the globe and ones that did jazz hands.  Choir is where he learned to feel ok. At practice, Matt learned how to make something beautiful with his friends on stages around the world.  Like an athlete, he watched himself get better at something his body and mind were making together.  Matt danced and laughed and thrived.  Even when his voice cracked his value was never questioned. Outside of choir-practice, he usually felt intimidated and out of place.  As a teenager his social-life revolved around belonging to a fundamentalist Christian church.  Matt finds much of his music is about healing from that experience.

Matt went on to study music and writing with some wise and fearless teachers whom he now calls friends.  With a music degree and a pocket full of sunshine he moved to California to find his kindreds. These days he spends time with truth-tellers from every walk of life, and he is finding more and more of them.

Hide Nothing is Matt's first album of original songs.  The record was largely recorded at home and co-produced with a trusted visionary, Jeff Crerie at Utmosis in San Francisco (utmosis.net.)  His songs stem from boy-hood crushes (Field-trip Buddy), redwood hikes (Monarch), first dates (The Slow Club) and ancient tales of bravery (Beotia.)

When he's not touring or recording, Matt also directs a choir of his own in Los Angeles called Forever Young. The audition is fairly simple-- if you're 60 or up, sing with Heart, and can bring something to the potluck, you're in. Most of them are also gay or lesbian and lead incredible lives.  He is currently developing a reality-based television show about his experiences.

Matt also enjoys taking photos of oddly beautiful moments and older people, working on Macintosh Computers, wearing headphones, Levi's jeans, and soft t-shirts.  All of his instruments were gifts from friends.  For more information and to listen to Matt's album in full, please visit www.mattalber.com.
